School officials in Knox County say they were made aware of a bomb threat that was called into the Barbourville/Knox County 911 dispatch center around 7 Wednesday morning. The caller told dispatchers that there was a bomb at a Knox County school but did not give a location or other identifying information. Police and school personnel immediately began to search all schools. Officials say an old fire extinguisher was found outside on school property at Jesse D. Lay Elementary. After investigating the item further, it was determined that the extinguisher was abandoned and did not pose a threat. They determined there was no credible threat found and school went on as planned with an increased police presence. School officials say they continue to investigate.
